John 6: Who Is The Bread Of Life?
Verse of the Day: (V35) “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
1. Baskets (V1-21)
V9 “There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?”
Jesus had compassion for the five thousand people who followed Him. Not only did He teach them God’s Word, and healed their diseases, He also fed them while they were with Him. When Jesus knew of a boy who had five loaves and two fishes, He took the food, and gave thanks to God, and began to distribute to His disciples, who in turn distributed to the multitude. All in all, they not only miraculously fed the five thousands, but they had remainders that filled up to twelve baskets full! Indeed, Jesus is truly the Son of God.
V13 “Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.”
2. Bread (V22-65)
V32 “Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.”
The people of Israel thought that the manna that God supplied from heaven to feed them during their forty years in the wilderness was the true bread from heaven. But Jesus told them that the manna was not the true bread, as only He was the true Bread. God sent His Son, Jesus, from heaven to earth, to live among man, and then to die and shed His blood for the sins of the world. When we believe in Jesus, the true Bread of Life, we shall never hunger or thirst again, because He shall forever satisfy our spiritual hunger and thirst.
V35 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
3. Betray (V66-71)
V70 “Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
The twelve disciples were shocked when Jesus told them that one of them would actually betray Him, because Jesus was such a loving, compassionate and understanding Master.
V71 “He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.”
Prayer of the Day:
Dearest God, thank You that I shall never hunger because You are my Bread of Life.
