John 7: Are You Thirsty?
Verse of the Day: (V37) “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”
1. Time (V1-13)
V6 “Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.”
Jesus referred His time as the time of His death on the cross, while his brothers’ time was the time of attending the Jews’ feast of tabernacles which was a great feast of celebration thanking God for His great deliverance of the people of Israel out of Egypt. Jesus did not go with his brothers to the feast, because He was preparing Himself to be offered as the ultimate sacrifice on the cruel cross, and to shed His precious blood for the sins of the whole world. On the third day, Jesus would then be raised from the dead, and whosoever believes in Him shall never perish, but have everlasting life with Him for all eternity.
V8 “Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.”
2. Thirst (V14-39)
V37 “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”
At the end of the feast, Jesus invited the people that whosoever would come to Him and drink of His living water shall never thirst and perish, but shall have everlasting life with Him. Jesus was prophesying His death, burial and resurrection, and indeed, whosoever would believe in Him shall have rivers of living water or the Holy Ghost in him forever.
V38 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
3. Town (V40-53)
V41 “Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?”
The people of Israel failed to realise that it was the fulfilment of God’s words and prophecies that Jesus was indeed Jesus Christ, the seed of David, and from the town of Bethlehem, though He was often seen at Galilee. God’s words and prophecies are always true and accurate, however, it is man who often fails to understand and comprehend them.
V42 “Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?”
Prayer of the Day:
Dearest God, thank You that You have quenched my thirst now and forever.
