2 Kings 7 & 8: Always A Light
Verse of the Day: (8:19) Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.

1. Lepers (7:1-20)
And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it. (7:8)

One of the king’s adviser had mocked at Prophet Elisha’s prophecy when he prophesised that God shall supply their needs amid the famine because the Syrians had besieged their city. Indeed God supplied their needs when 4 lepers after much debate as to whether they would die in the besieged city or in the camp of the Syrians, finally went to the Syrians, and to their shock, found out that there was no one in the camp. God had made them flee as He made a loud noise as if a great army like the Hittites or the Egyptians that Israel had hired to attack them. The lepers then took the valuable stuff and return to Israel and told the king of the news. The king confirmed it and there was a stampede as Israel rushed to the camp, and amid the stampede, the king’s adviser, who had mocked at Elisha’s prophecy, was killed. Indeed, let us trust God for all our needs. (Philippians 4:19)

2. Life (8:1-15)
Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. (8:1)

God through Elisha made the king of Israel restored to a woman, whose dead son Elisha had restored to life, all her land in Israel, after she obeyed Elisha, and stayed in Philistines for 7 years to avoid the famine. Elisha then prophesied to Hazael, that he shall succeed his master, Benhadad, King of Syria, who shall die, not from his sickness, but in his hand as he would killed him, enthrone himself, and then subsequently destroyed Israel. Indeed, let us repent of our wicked hearts, and turn to our holy God. (Jeremiah 17:9-10)

3. Light (8:16-29)
And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. (8:16)

Not only Jehoram, King of Judah, did evil against God, even his son, Ahaziah, who succeeded him also did evil. However, God always leave a remnant in Judah for David’s and His sake, just like He preserves us to be the lights in this dark world. (Matthew 5:16)

Dearest God, please help me to always be Your light who shines in this dark world.
