Psalm 1 & 2: Delighting In The Law Of The LORD
Verse of the Day: (1:2) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
1. Delight (1:1-6)
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (1:3)
Do you like to be prosperous and happy in God? King David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, gave us the secret, and it is to flee from ungodly counsel, and to daily delight in and meditate on God’s Word. During the hardest time of David’s life, it was God’s Word that gave him wisdom, strength and encouragement to persevere on to the end. We are like trees beside the rivers that take in the waters, which is God’s Word, so that we shall grow spiritually even in life storms. Even Apostle Paul affirmed that it was only in delighting in God’s law that he could truly overcome life crises as he daily struggled with his flesh. Indeed, we are not just to be happy, but to be holy before the holy God. (Romans 7:15-25)
2. Declare (2:1-8)
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. (2:7)
Whose father will not love his own son? God, the Father, truly loves His only begotten Son, as He proudly declares that He had begotten Jesus Christ. Though the leaders and the people of this world kept rebelling against God, yet He always declares His great love for them that He sent His Son to die for their sins, and whoever repents his sins, and believes in Him shall never perish in fiery hell but have everlasting life with Him in glorious heaven. Indeed, the greatest declaration that we can ever make is that of the gospel, that Jesus died for our sins and that He was buried and the third day He rose again, and whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life with Him. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
3. Dash (2:9-12)
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. (2:9)
Though God is loving, yet He is also holy, and He shall punish all sinners in this world unless we confess and repent our sins, and believe and trust in Him. God shall only bless and keep those who put their trust in Him, and serve Him with fear, and rejoice with trembling. He shall judge and dash the wicked and all who reject Him in pieces like a potter’s vessel, and ultimately condemn and cast them into fiery hell. Indeed, let us trust and believe in God, the Almighty, and abide under His mighty shadow, and He shall send His angels to protect us, so that we shall never dash our feet against a stone. (Psalm 91)
Prayer of the Day:
Dearest God, please help me to daily delight in Your holy Word amid life storms.
